During the 1992-2003 period, research fused content-driven video representation with temporal reasoning to enable scalable browsing, summarization, and retrieval across media streams. Emphasis was placed on hierarchical summarization, clustering, and scene-transition cues, together with compressed-domain analysis for fast indexing and navigation. Time-sequential feature modeling and hidden Markov models facilitated robust action recognition under varied camera conditions, while the discovery of underlying story units supported non-linear exploration of long programs.
